The Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps was a World Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pioneer is a former member corps of Drum Corps International (DCI). The unit current operates as three different winter ensembles.
Santana
Santana is a flexible number of musicians accompanying Carlos Santana since the late 1960s. Just like Santana himself, the band is known for helping make Latin rock famous in the rest of the world.
The band was formed in 1966 in San Francisco. The first members were Carlos Santana (lead guitar), Tom Frazier (guitar), Mike Carabello (percussion), Rod Harper (drums), Gus Rodriguez (bass) and Gregg Rolie (keyboard, vocal). In the following years the members of the group changed frequently for a number of reasons, and from 1971 to 1972 there was a brief separation between the group and Santana.

Murray Gusseck
Murray Gusseck is considered an innovator in the world of marching percussion. He started his drum corps career as a marching member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum & Bugle Corps in 1988 and later went on to instruct the group in a variety of capacities. In the 18 years he was a part of the SCV organization, he received many accolades as a player, teacher, and composer.

Gruber was born on 25 November 1787 in the village of Hochburg-Ach, Upper Austria, the son of linen weavers, Josef and Maria Gruber. His given name was recorded in the baptismal record as "Conrad Xavier," but this was later changed to "Franz Xaver". The Hochburger schoolteacher Andreas Peterlechner gave him music lessons.

Gruber worked as a weaver until the age of 18, then trained to become a schoolteacher. He completed his music education studying with the church organist of Burghausen, Georg Hartdobler. In 1807 Gruber became a schoolteacher in Arnsdorf. He also became the church caretaker and organist. In 1808 he married a widow, Maria Elisabeth Fischinger Engelsberger. They had two children, both of whom died young. After the death of his first wife in 1825, Gruber married a former student, Maria Breitfuss. They had ten children, four of whom survived to adulthood. In 1829 Gruber moved to Berndorf, and in later years to Hallein, Salzburg, where he was named choir director, singer and organist.
Maria Gruber died in childbirth in 1841. The following year he married Katherine Wimmer.

Coming from the "four mallet school", Ed Saindon has developed and continues to refine a pianistic approach to mallet playing which involves a consistent utilization of all four mallets via the Fulcrum Grip, a four mallet grip he developed for vibraphone and marimba playing. Saindon has absorbed and transferred the influences from the piano lineage that stretches from Fats Waller and Art Tatum up to the present. Originally a drummer, he began playing the vibraphone and piano while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston from 1972-1976.

In 1999 he was an age out of Pioneer Drum and Bugle Corps, placing 4th at DCI Midwest I&E, 3rd at DCI I&E, 3rd at the Percussive Arts Society College snare drum individual’s competition. In 2000, he also played snare in the Blue Knights WGI World Class Champion Percussion Ensemble, and took 2nd place at the Percussive Arts Society College snare drum individual’s competition. Botello has marched and studied with percussion instructors Mickey Hartzog, John Wooton, Allan Murray, Brian Stevens, Doug Rosener, and Curtis Pierre. Botello holds a B.A. in Music Education from New Mexico Highlands University and teaches High School band at Naaman Forest High School

Students need to complete an audition so that we can place you on the instrument that fits you and the line best. All new members are encouraged to audiutio on multiple instruments and indicate which instrument is your first and second choice. You will do this on our registration form, and will need to create a new entry for each audition you submit. Duke Ellington
Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (April 29, 1899 â May 24, 1974) was an American composer, pianist, and bandleader.
Recognized during his life as one of the most influential figures in jazz, if not in all American music, Ellington's reputation has increased since his death, including a special award citation from the Pulitzer Prize Board.
Ellington called his style and sound "American Music" rather than jazz, and liked to describe those who impressed him as "beyond category", including many of the musicians who served with his orchestra, some of whom were themselves considered among the giants of jazz and remained with Ellington's orchestra for decades. While many were noteworthy in their own right, it was Ellington that melded them into one of the most well-known orchestral units in the history of jazz. He often composed specifically for the style and skills of these individuals, such as "Jeep's Blues" for Johnny Hodges, "Concerto for Cootie" ("Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me") for Cootie Williams and "The Mooche" for Tricky Sam Nanton. He also recorded songs written by his bandsmen, such as Juan Tizol's "Caravan" and "Perdido" which brought the "Spanish Tinge" to big-band jazz. After 1941, he frequently collaborated with composer-arranger Billy Strayhorn, who he called his alter-ego.

Blue Knights
The Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps are a World Class (formerly Division I) drum and bugle corps based in Denver, Colorado and founded in 1958, and are a member corps of Drum Corps International. They are known throughout the circuit for their moving interpretations of classical music, use of choreography and colorful hand-painted flags. The Blue Knights administer a competitive drum corps that annually tours and competes throughout the country. The corps is a thirteen-time DCI finalist, with their highest finish being sixth in 2000 and seventh in 1994,1999 and 2006, having fallen out of the finals only four times since they first made the Top Twelve in 1991. The organization also fields an indoor percussion ensemble, winter brass ensemble and a winter guard unit, Opus 10, which competes on the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association and Winter Guard International circuits. The Blue Knights also organize the professional performing percussion group, Stampede, which performs at Denver Broncos football games.
